Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion

The annual exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York marks the theme of the Met Gala, the most anticipated event of the year in the world of fashion. This event, with a specific theme each year, will cover Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion in 2024.
The term “sleeping beauties” refers to the garments that, as a metaphor for fragility and ephemerality, are found in the museum kept in glass “coffins”. The exhibition displays 250 garments and accessories spanning four centuries of history. Among the designers, brands such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Elsa Schiaparelli and Christian Dior stand out.

Where? Yves Saint Laurent Museum, Paris
When? From February 9 to August 25, 2024
The universe of transparency in the creations of Yves Saint Laurent is the main theme of the exhibition. Explore, through the designer’s eyes, how his artistic sense changed fashion and the way women dressed. “Transparencies seem incompatible with the function of clothing to cover, hide or protect the body. Attracted by this contradiction, YSL began using lace, tulle and chiffon in the 1960s,” he says.
Among the selection of 40 textile pieces, there are various iconic garments from the brand that claimed the liberation of the female body, such as the first transparent blouse. In addition, essential elements of the author’s creative process are shown: sketches, patterns, photographs…

Naomi

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) will chronicle the career and life of one of the undisputed icons of the catwalk: Naomi Campbell. The exhibition, titled Naomi, will feature more than 100 iconic looks throughout her 40 years of profession in which names such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaïa, Alexander McQueen and Chanel will appear. Campbell makes history; It is the first time that the Victoria and Albert Museum has paid tribute to a model.

Where? Costume Museum, Madrid

The Costume Museum prepares Jeans, from the street to the Ritz, a journey through the history of denim fabric and denim garments. The exhibition has 200 garments that show the evolution of this material, from its origins, the birth of jeans, to the present day.
The title is inspired by the famous phrase by Yves Saint Laurent: “Down with the Ritz! Long live the street!” “The exhibition shows how jeans, with their enormous versatility and their role as absolute kings of the street, would end up taking over the Ritz in their own right,” explains the Costume Museum.
